ICBIE at the AOSR Mayfair
On Saturday, May 12th, a dozen tenth graders, under the watchful eyes of teachers Rosa de Bellis and Roy Zimmerman, volunteered to man the ICBIE exhibit at the American Overseas School of Rome’s annual Mayfair. AOSR has been supporting the ICBIE for more than a year, with a committee of students, parents and faculty called Bridge to Bahia. The exhibit was a collection of self-portraits made by young children at the ICBIE and at AOSR, intended as a creative way for the two communities to introduce themselves. This project, devised by Claudia Sobral, a parent at AOSR, also resulted in the creation of holiday greeting cards, which were sold to the AOSR community last December, with the proceeds donated to the ICBIE, in order to employ a librarian for the Leonardo da Vinci Library.
The beautiful Roman sun made the Saturday picnic a great success, and best of all, Pietro Gallina himself was able to attend, so our entire community was finally able to meet ICBIE’s founder.
The tenth graders also conducted a ball kicking game for small children and a guessing game (how many candies in the jar?), to raise money for the ICBIE. Best of all, the donations box was generously filled, and at day’s end, ICBIE’s librarian will have another month’s pay!
